Overview
Aden Chronicles ran on a heavily-patched L2J fork with no documentation and a shrinking pool of people who understood it.
The challenge
Any change was a gamble, onboarding new engineers took months, and the risk of a fatal bug grew with every patch and geodata change.
Our approach
- Captured protocol and gameplay behavior in a parity test harness.
- Incrementally replaced subsystems behind those parity tests.
- Documented architecture, data flows, and operational runbooks.
- Ran pairing sessions to transfer ownership to the in-house team.
The results
Aden Chronicles now runs on a modern, documented backend. New-engineer onboarding dropped from months to days, and the in-house team ships independently.
